The Southernmost Vineyard in Africa

Located just 9 km from the ocean, between Elim and Cape Agulhas, Strandveld Vineyards holds the title of the southernmost winery in Africa. Established in 2001 by a group of passionate wine enthusiasts, this 80-hectare estate was transformed from a neglected sheep and wheat farm into a thriving vineyard. The winery has since produced a range of distinctive wines, shaped by the region's unique climate and the expertise of its first winemaker, Conrad Vlok.

Unique Terroir of Strandveld Vineyards

Conrad Vlok's philosophy is simple:
“To make great wine, you need to start with great grapes.”
The terroir at Strandveld is exceptional, characterized by cool Atlantic winds that help prevent disease and maintain humidity. This climate allows for longer ripening periods, resulting in small, intensely flavored grapes. The estate's mineral-rich, nutrient-poor soil further enhances the distinctiveness of the wines produced here.

Commitment to Conservation

Strandveld Vineyards is a proud member of the Biodiversity & Wine Initiative (BWI), dedicated to preserving the delicate flora and fauna surrounding the estate. Home to around 9,000 plant species, as well as diverse bird and insect populations, the winery actively participates in initiatives to protect and restore the vital wetlands of Nuwejaars. This commitment to conservation reflects the winery's respect for nature and its ecosystems.

Hidden Gem!! Great wines (especially the whites, but reds also amazing!! Had some Specials so ended up buying a case and a few loose bottles, and arrived day after I gor back!! What a pleasure and great experience! Well worth a visit.. Drive there is so beautiful through wetland zone.

Stunning and peaceful setting! The gardens are amazing and the cottage has everything needed. Loved the fireplace and thank you for the bottle of stunning wine in the fridge. Just what was needed after a very long trip. The personal note was lovely. The walk was beautiful and we'll sign posted. We will definitely be back to the piece of paradise! Thank you for all the personal touches!

Our second time there. An absolute jewel….. fantastic old stone cottage with an indoor braai…. Lovely patio… complete privacy. Their wines are also top class

We decided to do a wine tasting without booking a table. Needless to say it was a very busy time and the lady told us that unfortunately there is no more space to accommodate us. Well, very disappointed but understanding, we were on our way out when a gentleman approached us saying that we shouldn’t leave he will clear a table (outside the tasting area under the pepper tree) if we really want to taste and don’t mind sitting there. Very happily we agreed. We had the most wonderful time and during the tasting heard it was the winemaker himself helping out during this very busy period. We had an absolutely brilliant time and will definitely be back! Not every day that a winemaker calls me back to have some wine!! 😉 if it was possible I will give them a 10/5!! We will definitely be back when we visit again.
