Tenuta di Artimino - A Historical Gem in Carmignano

Tenuta di Artimino is a renowned winery nestled in the scenic region of Carmignano, Tuscany. This historical estate is steeped in tradition, showcasing the passion and dedication of its winemakers. The fertile soil here is rich in nutrients, making it ideal for grape cultivation, while the breathtaking landscape draws visitors from around the world.

The Villa: A Testament to History

At the heart of Tenuta di Artimino lies the Villa Medicea, built in 1596 under the direction of Grand Duke Ferdinando I de' Medici. Designed by the architect Bernando Buontalenti, this villa, known as La Ferdinanda, was inspired by the concept of a hunting lodge and completed in just four years. Over the centuries, the villa has been home to many generations, each contributing to its rich legacy.

Carmignano: Tuscany's First DOCG

Carmignano holds the distinction of being the first and only DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita) in Tuscany, often referred to as the Medici family's wine. The region produces a variety of wines, including red, white, dessert, and rosé, crafted from grapes such as Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Trebbiano, Malvasia Toscana, Syrah, and Gamay. The winery is also recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, attracting history enthusiasts and wine lovers alike.

Notably, an edict from 1716 was established to protect the production boundaries of this prestigious wine region.

The bedding is adequate, offering good comfort for a night's sleep. The pools are well-maintained and pleasant. A shuttle service is available between the village and the hotel, which is convenient. The staff is attentive and friendly, with a special mention for Alessandro, who was available to accommodate all our requests. The food at the hotel restaurants is delicious. The overall atmosphere of the hotel is quiet and warm. The air conditioning doesn't work very well, which can make for uncomfortable nights. We expected the main hotel to be in a central location, but it's actually located in a village with many steps, which isn't practical with a baby and a dog. We had booked the spa for all days but only got a two-hour reservation out of our four-night stay, which was disappointing. Reservations are required for all restaurants, which limits flexibility. Breakfasts lack variety and are often unavailable after 9:30 a.m. The €50 per day dog package.

Small village surrounded by greenery, excellent location for long walks among vineyards. Well-kept village and wonderful rooms.

I had lunch, for the first time and alone, at Tenuta Artimino and it was very pleasant. Good food, good atmosphere, beautiful place immersed in history and above all excellent staff, able to make even my solitude beautiful. My pleasure for "good wine and good prosecco" was satisfied by the professionalism of Tissem, a wonderful and particularly prepared girl, able to convey the taste and aroma of all the nectars she held in her hands. Obviously, having said that - and believe me, that's not all - the advice is to go in person and see for yourself!
