The enchanting Villa La Ripa has roots that trace back to the II century, originally owned by Marcus Peconius. Its name, inspired by “Pacho,” the Etruscan god of wine, reflects a profound connection to the land and its winemaking legacy, showcasing centuries of dedication to viticulture.

A Legacy Through the Ages

Throughout the centuries, Villa La Ripa has changed hands, with each family leaving a unique imprint on its history. In the Middle Ages, the Ricoveri family constructed a fortified palace featuring a majestic tower that still graces the skyline today. The Villa's current form is attributed to the Gualtieri family, a notable lineage of poets, cardinals, and winemakers who acquired it during the Renaissance and entrusted it to the Order of St. Stephen.

From Napoleonic Times to Modern Day

In the XIX century, following the Napoleonic invasion of Arezzo, the Villa was confiscated and auctioned off. It was purchased by the Ubertini family, a noble clan from Arezzo, with Guglielmo degli Ubertini being a prominent figure known for leading Aretine soldiers in the historic “Battle of Campaldino” against Florence.

Revitalization and Quality Winemaking

At the dawn of the 20th century, the Bucchi family enhanced the cultivation of olives and vines, planting some of the oldest vines still thriving on the estate today. In 1992, the Luzzi family took ownership, with renowned neurologist Saverio Luzzi leading a meticulous renovation to restore the property to its former glory. Committed to high-quality wine production, he blends historical tradition with innovative techniques, ensuring that each bottle reflects the rich heritage of Villa La Ripa.

We spent the morning with this lovely and charming family. They made us feel at home and showed us many details about the great history of this family business. A very detailed tasting, unhurried, with laughter, warmth, and lots of love from everyone. Here's a well-earned review. Your passion for explaining what you do with so much love deserves to be known by everyone. We wish you the best. Marcos and Yolanda. Seville and Cadiz.

Our wine tasting experience was excellent. It’s a beautiful vineyard with an interesting history and the wines were the best we’d tasted so far in Tuscany. Livia, our guide, was knowledgable and friendly - we all enjoyed speaking with her and wish her the best of luck with her final year at university. We firstly had a tour of the cellar which was followed by the wine tasting where we tried 4 delicious wines and were provided with cold cuts to pair with the reds. We then had an olive oil tasting to finish off. Thank you Livia and Villa La Ripa for a great afternoon.

My friend and I recently attended a tour and tasting at Villa La Ripa, booked through a local website. Our guide, Olivia, was lovely. She told great stories, cracked a few jokes and was generous with the wine and cold cut servings. Each wine was delicious and we had an awesome experience. We bought a bottle to take home! Pro-tip: take the T bus in from Arezzo if you are in town. It is cheap, quick and easy, and stops a short 5-minute walk away from the winery. Also, take a tour on a weekday; less crowded and a good opportunity to chat with the staff.

The winery staff was very helpful and provided excellent service! Valentina, in particular, was very kind and friendly! As a Brazilian, I felt welcomed and I'm sure other Brazilians will love the way this establishment treats us.
