Familie Rauen Winery – Located in the Memorizing Mosel Region

Nestled amongst dense forest and the winding Mosel River, Familie Rauen Winery lies in the Thörnich region of Mosel. Enjoying fertile soils and a range of distinct microclimates, the vines are grown among the finest wine-growing areas in Germany. Familie Rauen Winery owns vineyards in Detzemer Maximiner Klosterlay, Detzemer Würzgarten, and Thörnicher Ritsch. At present, four generations of the Rauen Family are involved with the wine production.

In 1980, Harald Rauen, along with his parents, started contributing his time and efforts in the family winemaking business. Initially owned by his father, the name of the was Weingut Eduard Rauen und Sohn. Under his father’s hold, the wines were sold in casks to local customers and wine shops in Germany.

Exporting Wines to the USA, Great Britain, Sweden, Denmark, and Belgium

Later in 1990, Harald and Maria Rauen took over the winery and started producing high-quality bottled wines. Due to the increase in popularity of wines, a new winery was established in Thörnich in 1997 under the name Weingut Familie Rauen. Today, they are renowned wine sellers in the USA, Great Britain, Sweden, Denmark, and Belgium.

Varieties Grown at the Winery

Riesling is the prime variety grown at Familie Rauen Winery, the owner also cultivates various other grape varieties. They include mineral-rich Rivaner, Pinot Noir, and Dornfelder. In some patches of Thörnicher Ritsch, the estate grows Weißburgunder and Sauvignon Blanc. After careful selective harvesting, the berries are processed in the stainless steel tanks for fermentation at the winery. Along with red, white, and rosé wines, Harald delivers top-rated sparkling wines, brandies, and liqueurs.
