Les Baux de Provence clings precariously to an ancient rocky cliff. A fortified hilltop village one of the most visited in Provence & easy to understand its popularity, narrow cobbled streets, ancient houses run up to the castle ruins. It's where the Baux family ruled from the 9th century 'til 1426 when it was integrated into Provence, subsequently became part of France in 1481. Our visit explores the village & château. Next to Carrières de Lumières, one time 19th century quarry Les Grand Fonds. In the 1960s it found a new function thanks to the visionary genius of Jean Cocteau. Now Culturespaces who created AMIEX® - Art, Music Immersive Experience each year exhibit works from famous painters spanning 7,000 m² of the old quarry. A visual & musical production retracing the intense life of each artist. Next visit Saint Rémy de Provence, savour the unique flavours of olive oil from Domaine Jolibois, passionate olive oil producers, based in the Baux-de-Provence Valley - a true Provençal art of living. olive oils produced on the estate that symbolize the conviviality & joie de vivre. To end the day, a relaxing wine tour of Domaine de la Vallongue a 400 hectare estate on the steep hillsides of the Alpilles next to Eygalières and Saint Rémy de Provence. The estate is located at the bottom of a long valley, the “Vallongue”, which was once the ancient Roman road which linked Rome to Spain.

Tour itinerary

We will arrive to collect you from your hotel, chambre d'hôte, villa or apartment.

We leave by car first to the village of Les Baux de Provence, with a visit to the Castle ruins and walking tour of the small village, on to Carrières de Lumières to visit the exhibition. Afterwards a short drive through the countryside to St Rémy de Provence where we explore the village and focus on the numerous food shops selling local produce including cheeses & olive oil. We visit the village shop of local olive oil producer Domaine Jolibois for a tasting & shopping.

Afterwards a drive to Domaine de la Vallongue for a wine tasting to end the day. The vineyard classified as Protected Designation of Origin Les Baux de Provence has been cultivated organically for more than 50 years.
