Walking through the Woods in Summer

Wines, Vines & Good Times!

Discover world-class wines, picturesque villages & wonderfully green landscapes on our farm-to-table Vienna Wine Tour.

Introduction

The German name for Vienna is 'Wien'. Rearrange that and you get wine. If that hasn't convinced you already to join our tour, then consider that Vienna is surrounded by renowned wine regions, from the sun-baked Burgenland to the southeast and the famous Wachau Valley to the west. The province of Lower Austria is considered the cradle of Austrian viticulture, so we want to take you to the beautiful vineyards of its Thermal Region, just south of Vienna. Home to traditionally quaint wine villages and unique wines, we showcase this lesser known yet truly gorgeous Austrian wine region…

Highlights

  • Guided 9 kilometer walk through forested trails of the Vienna Woods & the vineyards of Lower Austria's Thermal Region
  • Intimate winery visit and tasting with top local producer in Gumpoldskirchen
  • Wonderful photo opportunities en route, encompassing expansive hilltop views, vineyards and picturesque spa/wine villages
  • Be a little active on your vacation and burn off (at least some!) of the holiday calories
  • Native English-speaker and local wine expert on hand throughout

A perfect experience

It was the best day of our trip to Vienna. James had planned the day well, he was knowledgeable, enthusiastic and kind, and translated for us. After meeting, he took us out of Vienna by train then on a hike past historic landmarks into the hills to see across the Vienna basin and explain the geology and how this affects the wine of the region. After that we walked down and across the slopes, across the vineyards where he told us more about the area and viticulture. The landscape and vineyards, which seem to be mainly managed organically, was stunning with an abundance of wildlife for anyone interested in birds, butterflies or insects. Then we arrived at our destination village where we bought lunch at a local restaurant then visited a vintner at his home and winery just round the corner,. We had a lovely few hours tasting 7-8 wines and buying what we wanted before taking the train back to Vienna. We'd recommend this trip to everyone visiting Vienna! The hike was the ideal setting to the day and wouldn't be challenging to anyone with a regular level of fitness.
