Estate Vineyard Walk and Tasting

Come up the mountain and spend a couple of hours with us where the wine is actually made.

Your visit begins with a walk through our estate vineyard, planted in the late 1980s and farmed organically from the beginning. We’ll talk about the land, our regenerative approach to farming, and the people who have cared for these vines for decades. Depending on the season, you may see sheep grazing among the vines or catch a glimpse of harvest, pruning, or other work happening in the vineyard.

From there, we’ll visit the winery and then settle beneath our old cork tree, where we taste five or more wines overlooking the vineyard and the valley beyond. There’s no tasting-room bar and no scripted presentation. We prefer to sit together, open good bottles, and talk about wine, farming, and the particular place these wines come from.

The experience is intimate, relaxed, and unhurried, usually lasting 1.5 to 2 hours. It’s a chance to see a working mountain vineyard up close and meet the people who farm it and make the wine.

The road up the mountain is part of the journey. Once you arrive, the pace changes. There are vines, oak trees, wide views, and very little else. Come for the wine, but leave having experienced a little piece of the land and the people behind it.

$25 per person. One tasting fee is waived with the purchase of three bottles. Complimentary for wine club members. Reservations are recommended.

What a great time! My wife and our best friend’s spent some time at this tasting room/winery. We learned so much about the wines of this winery and this region. The tasting was wonderfully hosted by Shirley. She sat with us under a beautiful oak tree and shared good wines and stories. Shirley and this place were so charming. Off the beaten path with views of the valley. We had such a great time. Opening each bottle that we brought home reminds us of the time we spent at Alta Orsa Winery. Can’t wait to go back. Jared

This is a truly unique vineyard experience combined with some excellent wines, great hosts, and a location that is what the wine country is all about. I wanted our group to experience a real winery, walk on a dirt path, and see how vines are grown when the land is worked by hand and not by machines. Alta Orsa exceeded my expectations by every measure. The commercialized tasting rooms have their purpose, but if you want a more intimate experience you would have a difficult time to find anyplace more rewarding that Alta Orsa.

Alta Orsa winery is a fantastic and unique wine tasting experience on a small production, estate winery! The drive up the hill is worth the ride! My sister and I visited and were blown away by the sweeping views of the Sanel Valley and hillside vines at the Alta Orsa Estate. This winery has a wonderful variety of wines from their lighter wines, Rose and Chardonnay, up to their excellent reds Pinots, Syrahs and Cabernets. The Soil Series Cabernet and Hillside Cuvee are my favorites. I enjoyed sitting outside and taking in the view while tasting under their Cork tree. It’s intimate and relaxed experience. You can learn as much as you’d like about Alta Orsa’s regenerating farming and winemaking from the Winemaker, Martin. Or you can just enjoy views, wines, and your company. Alta Orsa has a very welcoming approach to tasting excellent wines in a breathtaking location. I recommend taking a visit to this unique property and wine-tasting experience.

We are so happy to have become aware of Alta Orsa Winery via Harvest Host as we have traveled to Alaska from Delaware and now heading to the southeastern US. This will be our one vineyard stop in California and I'm totally satisfied! First the tour and tasting was remarkable, learning thier passion and process for making thier wine got me on board. With limited space for traveling we bought 6 bottles. Thanks for the great hospitality and to notch wine. 99+ rating from me 😊 Added bonus of enjoyment friendly dog, cat and a rainbow!
