Manuel Engelhard Winery Boasts Winemaking Traditions for Many Generations
In the 1600s, the great-great-uncle, Johannes Abstein, established the company. However, due to being an entirely indebted company, the Hausmann family acquired the estate. Things took a U-turn in 1968 when Werner Engelhard began producing wines and managing vineyards at the young age of 25. He became a vintage master in 1970. Later, his son and daughter-in-law, Manuel and Maike, started working with Werner, supporting him in all the aspects of winemaking and viticulture. Today, the third-generation members, Johann and Henry, also contribute alongside their parents.
Careful Harvesting and Management of Berries
Manuel Engelhard owns more than 15 hectares of organic vineyards today, where a variety of red and white varietals are grown with the utmost care. He cultivates top-class Riesling, Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, and Silvaner, together with Regent, Dornfelder, Rivaner, Sauvignon Blanc, and Solaris. The production is limited but quality-driven.
