A Blend of Tradition and Innovation in Bordeaux Wines
The History of Chateau Phelan Segur
Chateau Phelan Segur is a distinguished winery located in the Saint Estèphe appellation of Bordeaux, France. With roots tracing back to the 18th century, the estate was founded by Irishman Bernard Phelan and later developed by his son Frank. The estate was renamed Phelan Segur in the early 20th century. Today, it is owned by Philippe Van de Vyvere, a Belgian investor and wine enthusiast who merges traditional winemaking techniques with modern innovations to create exceptional wines.
From Vineyard to Bottle
The vineyard spans 70 hectares near the Gironde estuary, featuring rich clay-gravel soils ideal for grape cultivation. The estate primarily grows black grape varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. Grapes are hand-harvested and meticulously sorted using advanced technology, ensuring only the finest fruit is selected. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels, allowing for a refined maturation process.
Crafting Exceptional Wines
Chateau Phelan Segur is celebrated for its elegance, finesse, and aromatic complexity. The wines typically require 5 to 7 years of bottle aging to reach their peak, with the finest vintages capable of aging for up to 15 years. The French oak barrels impart a harmonious oak flavor, enhancing the silky tannins while preserving the wine's natural freshness.
