Experience the First Sparkling Wines of Upper Hungary
The Origin of Kern Winery
Kern Winery was established in 2012 by Pal Kern and Lena Szavercsenko, who shared a deep passion for winemaking. Their goal was to bridge the gap between traditional and modern wine production, focusing on reviving nearly forgotten grape varieties through innovative and gentle techniques. This commitment to quality and heritage sets Kern Winery apart in the Hungarian wine landscape.
Wine Regions of Kern Winery
Kern Winery cultivates grapes in two prominent wine regions of Hungary: Balatonszőlős and Tokaj. The winery's first plots were acquired in Balatonszőlős, followed by additional vineyards in the historic Tokaj region. Covering a total of 10 hectares (5 hectares in Lake Balaton and 5 hectares in Tokaj), these vineyards benefit from unique microclimates ideal for grape growing. Tokaj, known for its rich viticulture history dating back nearly a thousand years, was recognized as the world's first closed wine region in 1737, ensuring strict regulations for wine production. Balatonszőlős, located on the northern shore of Lake Balaton, offers a perfect environment for crafting exceptional wines.
First Sparkling Wines of the Region
Kern Winery is proud to produce the first sparkling wines in Upper Hungary, showcasing the region's potential for high-quality sparkling wine. With a focus on traditional methods and modern techniques, these wines reflect the unique terroir of the area. Wine enthusiasts can look forward to tasting these innovative creations that honor the past while embracing the future of winemaking.
