Linden Estate Winery, a Small Boutique Winery in Lovely Hawke’s Bay

Linden Estate Winery is a small boutique winery, close to Napier, in the New Zealand winegrowing region of Hawke’s Bay. This region has become well known as a high-quality north island wine region and the subregion of Esk Valley for its unique fruit. The Van der Linden Family established the winery originally in 1971, the current wine cellar was built in 1991 along with a well-planned planting program in their vineyards, using classic grape varietals. Their famous Chardonnay was the first medal winner wine at Linden Estate Winery and is served on business and first-class flights of Air New Zealand. The current owners bought the winery in 2006, intending to make premium Hawke’s Bay wines through their hard work and passion. Linden Estate enjoys a warm climate with slight coastal influences in the vines and the winery was the first in the region.

Oldest Vineyards in the Region of Hawke’s Bay

They own some of the oldest vineyards of the region, located north of Hawke Bay. The vineyards sit on the Eks Valley slopes that allow for stunning natural views and a microclimate perfect for vine cultivation. The combination of ideal soil with adequate sunshine and moderate rainfall helps in growing juicy fruits.

Grape Varieties Grown Through Sustainable Viticulture

The main types of grapes grown in their vineyards are Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Gris, Viognier, Pinot Gris, Syrah, Albarino, Gewurztraminer, and Tannat. The best grapes at Linden Estate Winery go into the production of red, white, sparkling, dessert, and fortified wines. All the work is carried through with organic and sustainable practices that protect nature and its vineyards. The yield from their vines is quite low but of very high quality. The wines have an intense aroma profile and structure that show the gifted qualities of their region.
