Lynfred Winery:founded in 1975
Situated in Illinois, United States, Lynfred Winery was founded by Fred E. Koehler, who along with his wife Lynn, made his first batch of wine in the basement of their home in 1975. But winemaking wasn’t new to Koehler, for his grandfather and father used to make wine for the family and local politicians in as far back as the 1920s. For this business savvy and self-taught winemaker, what began as a hobby and family ties quickly led to the opening of Illinois’ first winery in 1979 with 7 varieties and 5,000 gallons of wine.
Only careful hand-picked grapes are processed
Today, the vineyards produce such wide variety of grapes, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Petite Sirah, Vermentino, Tempranillo, Sauvignon Blanc and more. When the grapes are determined to be at their optimum for harvest, they are carefully hand-picked and sorted for selection of their very best red, white, rosé, sparkling, dessert and fortified wines.
Fred E. Koehler was a risk taker, and the Lynfred Winery keeps to his tradition of striving to produce wines of sublime excellence
