What you can expect to slurp on this grape day out?

Dating back to roman times, when the romans believed they had found the Tuscany of the north with its warmer climate and mix of red sandstone terroir today the Pfalz still gives of a Mediterranean vibe of figs, almonds and cypress trees in the Spring & summer. Being further south its warmer and therefor one of the most dynamic of the German wine regions in terms of a variety of red wines and has a Francophile influence on cuisine due to the history of borders moving between Alsace. While you can expect to find ripe Spätburgunder & Riesling with more body in recent years winemakers are focusing on red varietals like Syrah, Merlot, Cab Franc with a focus on making red blends (Thanks Climate Change!). 

If you love bubbles and who doesn't this region also has long history producing quality sparkling wines..aka SEKT influenced by winemakers from this region with relation to Champagne houses... but with out the champagne prices!

For this grape day out I offer a pick up from the Mainz, Heidelberg or Frankfurt area (on request) We will drive about 45-1hr to  discover the romantic so-called Deutsche Weinstrasse (Wine road) on which curves along the slopes of the Haardt mountains and Pfälzer forrest which slopes down to rolling green vineyards, and beautiful countryside  as far as the eye can see. We will visits a mix of 3 wineries and their vineyards focused on a mix of wines representing the region. To stay merry, and soak up all that wine we stop for lunch at a regional wine tavern serving up local specialties.
