Corvina is a red grape variety which makes medium-light bodied red wine with low tannin content and medium acidity. It is usually characterized by its sour cherry flavor and almond notes. Corvina wines tend to have light red color and light texture. The grape's thick skin is perfect for protecting it from drought.

Corvina Grape Profile

Where is Corvina from?

This grape variety is of Italian origin and is generally planted in northeastern Italy. In the New World, we can find Corvina in smaller quantities in such vinegrowing countries as Australia and Argentina.

Interesting story about Corvina

Corvina has often been confused with the Corvinone grape, as it had been long believed to be a clone of it. However, according to DNA tests, they are two completely different grapes. What has been proven, however, is that Corvina shares DNA with the Rondinella del Veneto grape.

Corvina grape characteristics

During the growth of the Corvina vines, the first shoots do not produce fruit. Corvina is a late ripening grape. Usually it has high yield even though it also depends on the weather conditions.

Corvina Wines

Corvina, together with Rondinella, is an important red grape in the production of Valpolicella wines (both DOC and DOCG). This grape variety is also found in Amarone and Bardolino wines, while 100% Corvina wines are produced under the IGT (Indicazione Geografica Tipica) status.
