Where is the Sambuca di Sicilia Wine Region?
Sambuca di Sicilia is located in a small valley in the western hills of the province of Agrigento, 15 kilometers northeast of Menfi, and is almost equidistant from Palermo to the north and Agrigento to the southeast.
The Sambuca di Sicilia DOC encompasses the territory of the municipality of Sambuca di Sicilia in the province of Agrigento, region Sicily.
Unique Terroir of Sambuca di Sicilia Appellation
Sambuca di Sicilia is located 41 miles (or 68 kilometers) southwest of Palermo in the Province of Agrigento, Sicily. The town is surrounded by hills and trees, Mount Genuardo, and the valleys of the river Carboj that create the reservoir of Lake Arancio. The town is perched on a hill with a Belvedere terrace at its crest.
A vine's vitality derives from its soil, which is home to its roots. This highly unusual geographical position and geological history result in an unrivaled variety of soils on a relatively narrow length of the land. Sambuca di Sicilia soils truly fluctuate in color from white to crimson to black consisting of limestone, red volcanic sand, and sand.

Sambuca di Sicilia, formerly called Zabut, is a town rich in monuments and noble traditions, including those of the cultivation of the vineyard. This is demonstrated by works of art (pilasters in which pampas and bunches of grapes are carved), as well as certain fifth-century BC artifacts like the giara dolio, a storage container for wine, and the tuff foundation of a wine press.

What is Sambuca di Sicilia DOC Wine?
The Sambuca di Sicilia DOC designation produces a wide range of varietal wines. These wines are made using at least 85% of the variety listed on the label, as is the case in most wine areas across the world. White wines of Sambuca di Sicilia are made of: Chardonnay, Grecanico Turato, Ansonica (or Inzolia) grapes.
Red wines of Sambuca di Sicilia are made of (also Reserve): Cabernet Sauvignon, Nero d'Avola, Sangiovese, Merlot, Syrah. Sambuca di Sicilia Riserva is available for red wines that have been aged for at least 24 months before being released to the market, with at least six months in wood.
The appellation also offers passito (raisin) sweet wines made with the Inzolia grapes, to which Grillo and Sauvignon are added, in addition to the basic red, rose, and white wines.
- The Sambuca di Sicilia DOP Bianco has a rich straw color, sometimes with greenish hay; the bouquet meets aromas of peach and field daisy, herbaceous and balsamic recollections. The taste flowery notes are accompanied by a savory-acidic thorn.
- Sambuca di Sicilia DOP Rosso has a deep crimson color, even with garnet reflections; the bouquet is powerful of morello cherry, cherry, tobacco, and spices; the flavor is warm and enveloping, with intense minerality and tannins.
- Sambuca di Sicilia PDO Rosato is a variety of pink hues, ranging from onion peel to coral; the aroma is beautiful and powerful at the same time, with traces of fresh fruit and floral notes; the flavor is tangy, savory, and harmonic; and it has a distinctive finish.
- Sambuca di Sicilia DOP Passito has a golden-amber color in the glass; the bouquet is powerful, with notes of dried fruit, honey, and candied orange peel; on the tongue, it has softness backed by a good acid push that leads to a lengthy finish and exceptional persistence.
