Unique Terroir of Tuniberg  Appellation

It stands like an island between the Schwarzwald and the Vosges, a Tuniberg with a height of roughly 100 meters. Beautiful rose-adorned partridges, charming villages, and idyllic gardens are the image of this hilly area at Freiburg's gates. It makes sense why Tuniberg is known as the “vineyard of Freiburg.”

Tuniberg, with its Mediterranean and maritime-Atlantic influences, is one of Germany's warmest and sunniest areas. During the major vegetative period from April to October, the duration of sunshine ranges from 1,350 to 1,400 hours. The yearly precipitation ranges between 700 and 750 mm/m2.

The Tuniberg, like its bigger sibling to the north, the Kaiserstuhl, is characterized by loess and clay soils and rises 100 meters above the Rhine plain.

History of Tuniberg Wine Region

Viticulture has been practiced here for millennia and blossomed during the 1970s. In the 1980s, several winemakers began to create and promote their own wines. Since then, a variety of wineries have started appearing around the Tuniberg, producing high-quality wines with varying approaches, but always with zeal. Some of the most ambitious wineries gather on a regular basis to promote grape and wine quality via the exchange of ideas and experiences.

They seek to promote awareness well beyond Baden's borders about the Tuniberg, a Burgunder oasis that produces exceptional world-class pinots.
