Monte Belo was first colonised by the Italians in 1877, bringing with them their passion for wine and viticulture. The Monte Belo wine region is known for its high altitude and rolling hills which make it one of the most beautiful wine regions in Brazil.

The Monte Belo wine region municipality is the largest producer of grapes in Latin America. This production is mainly of white grapes that are commonly used in making sparkling wines.

The climate in the Monte Belo wine region consists of very hot summers and cooler nights. This is perfect for the maturation of white grapes. The altitude of the region reaches as high as 695 meters above sea level.

Monte Belo soil is low fertility and low content of organic matter. The soil is mainly grey clay with volcanic rocks.
