Muntenia wine region is a Romanian wine region that is located in the south of the Southern Carpathians. The wine-growing areas of the Muntenia wine region are Dealurile Buzaului, Dealul Mare, Pietroasele, Samburesti and Stefanesti. These areas experience some of the highest average temperatures in Romania. The Muntenia wine region is known for its red and rose wines that are made from international grape varietals.
The various districts of Muntenia are Brăila, Buzău, Prahova, Damboviţa, Arges, Olt (in part) Teleorman, Giurgiu, Călăraşi, Ialomiţa and the Municipality of Bucharest. The vines that are grown in these districts are elevated and protected by mountains and winter frosts. The soils of the Muntenia wine region are red-brown and rich in iron and the climate is temperate continental.

Red varieties: Feteasca Neagra, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Burgund Mare
White varieties: Welschriesling, Feteasca Alba, Pinot Gris, Muscat Ottonel, Tămâioasă Românească
Muntenia Romania is a wine region that specializes in the production of white, rose, red, dry, semi-dry, and semi-sweet wines of exceptional quality.
The white wines of the Muntenia wine region have a high level of extract, a velvety structure and a medium level of acidity. This is thanks to the Southwestern exposure of the vines. In some of the areas within the Muntenia wine region, the soil has a high concentration of calcium carbonate which is perfect for the cultivation of aromatic grape varietals such as Tămâioasă Românească and Muscat Ottonel.
Muntenia red wines are enjoyed by all red wine lovers. They are well-balanced and full-bodied, with a smooth texture. These wines have a long aftertaste and aromas of berries. Coffee, spices and chocolate.
The highlight of the Muntenia wine region is by far the full-bodied cabernet sauvignon and merlot wines that should not be missed.

The Palace of Parliament in Bucharest was before the revolution known as the House of the People. The palace which has 12 levels is noted in the Guinness Book of Records as the heaviest building in the world in 1984. The building is located in the centre of Bucharest on Arsenal Hill.
The Peles Castle of Muntenia is located at the foot of the Bucegi Mountains in the town of Sinaia. The castle was designed in the German New Renaissance architectural style and is considered one of the most beautiful castles in Europe. The construction of the castle took place in 1883 and until 1947 it served as the summer residence of the royal family. Peles Castle has 160 rooms, all filled with the finest examples of European art as well as many crystal chandeliers and stained-glass windows.
The Old Princely Court is also known as the Curtea Veche. Today, what remains of the Princely Palace is a landscape of ruins, broken masonry and old stone arches. Out of these ruins stands the bust of Vlad III Dracula, the most notorious Russian ruler in history. Vlad III Dracula is most commonly associated with the Bram Stoker Dracula books but before this, he ruled the area. The palace ruins and the best are located within walking distance of the Old Town and the museums of Central Bucharest.
The Poenari Castle is also known as the Poenari Citadel. This ruined castle was once the home of Vlad the Impaler and is situated high on a mountain hilltop that is only accessible by climbing 1480 concrete stairs. The castle is located on the plateau of Mount Cetatea.

The landscape of the Muntenia wine region is widely varied and includes strange land formations, breathtaking views, and a range of winter resorts. For nature lovers, there is something for everyone to enjoy in the Muntenia wine region.
The Prahova Valley is the perfect location for winter sports lovers. The most popular mountain resort in the valley is Predeal which boasts 8.5 km of ski runs. There is also the popular 1.2 km descent Clabucet Slope and Azuga which is less crowded and perfect for a relaxing day on the slopes.
The Sphinx of the Bucegi Natural Park is a natural rock formation that can be found in the Bucegi National Park in the Bucegi Mountains. The sphinx stands at an altitude of 2 216 m above sea level and is located within the Babele rock formation complex. The image of the sphinx in the rock appears when it is viewed from a certain angle and is clearest at sunset.
The Muntenia mud volcanoes are a major attraction in the town of Buzau in the Muntenia wine region. The volcanoes are located 30km from the city and are formed by natural gas that has escaped the depths of the earth through water and clay. The mud is then solidified to create the shape of a volcano. There are four spots where the volcanoes can be viewed, and these spots are the perfect day trip from Buzau.

The cuisine of the Muntenia wine region is nothing short of mouthwatering. From delicious baked pies to vegetable stews and amazing soups and fish dishes, there is truly something for everyone. Food lovers should not miss a trip to the Muntenia wine region.
Mititei is Muntenian spicy garlic grilled sausages. The sausages are made with a combination of pork, lamb and beef which is mixed with coarse salt, black pepper, ground coriander, ground cumin, thyme, garlic cloves, baking soda and sparkling water. The sausages are unique in that they have no casing. They are traditionally served with bread rolls, mustard, pickles and a cold beer.
Carnati de Plescoi or Plesco Sausages are sausages that are made with lamb, beef, hot peppers, thyme and salt. The ingredients are mixed, formed into sausages and smoked for approximately ten hours in the cold. After drying the sausages are dried and stored in a cool place o enjoy whenever one feels like a snack.
Ciorba de Burta is one of the most loved Romanian soups. The soup is normally enjoyed on holidays and special occasions. It is made with a combination of sour cream, beef tripe, beef broth, pickles, vinegar, garlic, parsnips, celery, eggs, carrots and onions.
