The Beginning of Anabasis Winery

The winery was born in 2016 by a dream. The dream of the owner Michelangelo Alagna and his wish to produce fine wines starting by the land and giving value to the autochthonous Sicilian grapevine. After his first graduation in archaeology, he started for a second one in enology. After completing his studies, he started with many years of work as a winemaker in many other wineries to gain as much experience, and finally,  Michelangelo decided to follow his great passion for wine starting with a new business.

Anabasis Winery and Its Wines

The company is based in Marsala, in the west part of Sicily, and has a property of 15 hectares widespread between the cost and the hills of Marsala land. All the wines came from the essence of the three most important Sicilian grapevine (Grillo, Nero d’Avola, and Zibibbo), trying to preserve the authentic characteristics of the grape and maintain them in the passage from the grape to the wine. The names of the wines are inspired by ancient Greek, and each label tells a story based on a theme from ancient wisdom.

Yesterday we were at the Anabasis winery with 15 friends and spent a wonderful morning in the company of Michelangelo and his family. A great sensory experience, excellent and refined wines!

What an outstanding experience, beautiful wine and the owner itself giving the tasting. The passion of the owner for the wine came through with hospitality and the excitement of sharing the wine he has created with us. Experience and wine like no other, highly highly suggest for any wine lovers out there to come here and get a personal experience of the best Sicily can offer when it comes to wine making!

We visited the Marsala region on our first day in Sicily. We could not find any wineries open since the harvest had just finished. All the wineries operate by reservation. On our way back to Palermo, we came across this wonderful family winery that opened its doors to us and gave us an amazing tour and tasting. The wines are simply excellent! I will definitely return there on my next visit to Sicily!

We visited this winery, which has been producing from local vines for at least three generations, and were welcomed by the owner, who explained his wine production in detail during a tasting. He impressed us with his competence (he is a qualified oenologist), but what enchanted us was the passion and determination with which he carries out his work. For me it was more than a tasting, much more.

An amazing experience where Michelangelo walked us through the whole process of artisan wine making. A true art indeed. Thank you for your amazing hospitality and good luck for your plans to grow, your wines are amazing. 👏
