**Welcome to Casa do JOA**

Located in the serene village of Parada, just 20 km from Bragança, Casa do JOA is a testament to the rich winemaking heritage of the Transmontano region. This charming northern village, whose name reflects its historical significance as a resting place, offers a tranquil atmosphere where time seems to stand still.

**A Blend of Tradition and Innovation**

At Casa do JOA, an old haystack house has been lovingly transformed into a modern wine cellar, preserving its original stone walls to maintain harmony with the surrounding landscape. This new structure embodies the spirit of the land, where Jorge Ortega Afonso (JOA) has deep roots, making it a place where the soul feels at home.

**Rich Terroir and Heritage**

Perched at an elevation of 800 meters, Parada was once known for its tin and wolfram. Today, it thrives with chestnut trees, olive groves, and over 130-year-old vines that flourish in a free-standing regime. These ancient vines boast more than 20 different grape varieties, showcasing the region's diverse terroir.

**A Family Tradition**

Winemaking is a cherished tradition in Parada, and the JOA family is proud to continue this legacy. With a shared passion, the family gathers each year to celebrate the transformation of grapes into wine. JOA has taken the initiative to preserve this heritage, encouraging local villagers to join him in maintaining their winemaking practices.

**Crafting Alto do JOA**

By combining modern enological techniques with the wisdom of past generations, JOA has created Alto do JOA—a wine that embodies the spirit of the land while ensuring its legacy endures. This wine reflects the strength and character of the region, promising a taste of Transmontano history in every sip.

Great tour of the winery and tasting from Teresa! Impressive knowledge and really interesting and friendly presentation, including petiscos! Willing to answer all our questions. We didn’t visit the vines as they are a bit far away but this is possible on a more comprehensive tour.

Cinco estrelas!

Away from the beaten path in the Douro valley, this little winery is a gem. We booked the tasting (3 wines + local products) online and were very warmly welcomed by Teresa. She talked about the history of the place and their different processes before we tried the wines straight from the barrel. We bought a couple of bottles before we left, looking forward to cracking them soon (with some food recommendations from Teresa).
