“We aim to nurture a quality vineyard rooted in values and focused on the future.”

A Family Legacy of Quality Vineyards and Sustainability

Château Haut-Gaussens has a rich history that began in the 1940s when my great-grandparents, Pierre and Marie Chevalier, purchased land for their five children. Their daughter Catherine and her husband Daniel Lhuillier received a plot in Vérac, where Château Haut-Gaussens was established. This vineyard has since been passed down to my parents, Michel and Annie Lhuillier, and now, alongside my sister Delphine, we care for these 15 hectares with deep respect for our land and heritage, aiming to pass it on to my daughter Ophélie. This manageable size allows us to oversee every stage of production, from vine cultivation to bottling.

Fruity and Powerful Wines with Unique Characteristics

Château Haut-Gaussens is celebrated for its wines that embody the distinctive qualities of the Bordeaux and Bordeaux Supérieur regions. Our vineyard's clay and limestone soil contributes to the creation of rich, fruity wines. We cultivate a variety of grapes, including Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, and Carménère, each adding unique flavors to our wines.

Maintaining high soil quality is essential for us. We ensure our soil is well-watered, which enhances the richness and complexity of our wines. Since 2003, we have been diversifying our grape varieties, introducing Malbec and Carménère, with plans for Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot in the future. These varieties thrive in our terroir, producing vintages that showcase generous typicity and set the foundation for our future.

A very warm welcome for this family vineyard. The wines are to be discovered with a little crush for the unusual! To top it all off, the spot offered to camper van drivers is truly magnificent! (Remember to call before 😉) Well done to you and good luck!

A winery in its fourth generation with a lot of passion. Delphine & Ophélie speak very good English. The wine has as much heart as the hosts. We were received on a Sunday after registering by email. Stéphane explains the wine with a lot of detail and passion. Mainly delicious Merlot wine and wines from the rare old Carménère grape.

Château Haut Gaussens is a real gem that I had the chance to discover during a day with a group of corvettes. This family estate, located in Vérac, stands out for their incredible wines and the unfailing passion of Stéphane, Delphine and Ophélie. As soon as you arrive, you are charmed by the peaceful and authentic atmosphere of the estate. The tour guided by Stéphane offers a fascinating dive into the history of the castle and the family. The tasting that followed was a highlight of our visit. Each wine tells a story. Special mention for their Cuvée L'Insolite which particularly seduced me with its originality. Château Haut Gaussens is a must for lovers of good wines and those looking for an authentic wine experience. The family's passion is reflected in every detail, making this estate an address not to be missed.

We arrived at the estate in the evening, and despite the late hour, Stéphane and Ophelie gave us a wine tasting and we were allowed to spend the night on the property in a beautiful meadow with a view of Bordeaux. Thank you very much for that. We felt very comfortable:)

Awesome!!! Extraordinary welcome, kindness, humor, sharing, friendliness and proximity to the operators. The wines are delicious, the place is warm, the family history touching, extra and very interesting. They welcomed us with open arms and a smile during our warm tastings. Their wines are extraordinary and very affordable. Not to be missed!! Our best time in the Bordeaux vineyard without a doubt. We left with 4 boxes :) And we had fun :) Thanks for everything. Paulo, who was with the American team!

This place... in one word - dreamy. The couple was kind, funny, pouring us so much delicious wine to taste even though we showed up unannounced (best to make reservations) We loved every glass they poured. And since we bought wines - they didnot charge us for a tasting - not the same at the other wineries. We left with one bottle of everything, and my friends took home 2 cases :) This husband and wife team do EVERYTHING themselves and their passion and love for the family business of 3 generations shines through. You have a lot of choices in Bordeaux... don't miss this stop on your next trip.
