Domaine du Bosc: A Gem Near Cap d’Agde

Nestled in the scenic Hérault region of Southern France, Domaine du Bosc is just a short distance from the famous seaside resort of Cap d’Agde. The winery benefits from the unique volcanic soils of Agde, which enrich the vines surrounding the main building. Today, Domaine du Bosc produces a variety of red, white, and rosé wines that are enjoyed in numerous countries and have received several prestigious awards.

A Legacy in French Winemaking Since 1806

The foundation of Domaine du Bosc was established in 1806 at the foot of the historic Oppidum of Ensérune. The Besinet family, the current owners, revitalized the estate into a modern winery. In 2003, they undertook a significant renovation of the cellar, integrating advanced winemaking technology with traditional methods. Pierre Besinet, a former chemical engineer, returned to his family's winemaking roots and, now in his 80s, is supported by his daughter Dominique, who manages daily operations with great care.

The Rich Viticulture of the Agde Wine Region

Pierre Besinet began anew by replanting the Agde vineyards with a diverse selection of red and white grape varieties. He was a pioneer in cultivating Bordeaux grapes in the region, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Grenache Blanc. The winery is also experimenting with unique varietals like Petit Verdot and Petit Manseng, contributing to the evolving landscape of Languedoc wines.

We came across this winery during an afternoon drive through the countryside. Warmly greeted by the owners and given a private tour of the grounds and winery followed by a private tasting. Very friendly and an amazing experience. Looking forward to a return visit to restock our cellar.
