A Third-Generation Winery Blending Tradition and Innovation in Styria
Weingut Johannes Jöbstl – A Legacy of Winemaking in Styria
Weingut Johannes Jöbstl, nestled in the scenic region of Styria, is a family-run winery that has been crafting exceptional wines since 1840. Now in its third generation, the winery combines time-honored traditions with modern techniques to create award-winning wines that offer a refreshing taste and delightful drinking experience. The Walch family acquired the winery in 1940, passing it to Maria Jöbstl, who managed it until 1991. Today, Johann Jöbstl and his family continue to uphold the winery's legacy, ensuring the highest quality in every bottle.
Grapes Grown in the Picturesque Sernauberg Region
Located at an elevation of 390 meters near Gamlitz, the Weingut Johannes Jöbstl estate spans 8.5 hectares of prime vineyard land. The region's ideal climate, combined with rich soil and nearby mixed forests, creates perfect conditions for grape cultivation. The winery primarily grows Welschriesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Gelber Muskateller, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Blanc, Zweigelt, Roesler, and Roter Muskateller. These carefully selected grapes are used to produce high-quality red, white, and sparkling wines.
Historic Cellar and Aging Process
The winery features a historic cellar constructed from large stones, providing an optimal environment for wine maturation. Here, wines age gracefully in 150-year-old oak barrels, while other varieties are stored in modern steel tanks before bottling. This combination of traditional and contemporary methods ensures that each wine reflects the unique character of the Styria region.
