A Rich Heritage of Winemaking
With a legacy spanning over 375 years, the history of Dr. Thanisch Winery began in the early 19th century when Dr. Hugo Thanisch acquired the estate. Following his passing, his wife took the reins, and their daughters continued the family tradition, adding ‘Erben Müller-Burggraef’ to the winery's name. Today, Maximilian Ferger oversees the estate, which features a modern manor built in 2015, blending tradition with contemporary winemaking practices.
Quality Winemaking at Weingut Dr. H. Thanisch
The winery's vineyards cover 16 hectares on the renowned slopes of Bernkastel Doctor, extending to Bernkastel Graben, Bernkastel Lay, and Bernkastel Badstube. Focusing on quality over quantity, the estate cultivates only two grape varieties: exquisite Riesling and Pinot Noir. The wines are crafted in a historic 350-year-old cellar, where the best grapes undergo gentle pressing, followed by fermentation in stainless steel tanks and traditional German oak casks. Whether you prefer a dry Riesling, a Kabinett, or an Auslese, the wines from Dr. H. Thanisch promise to satisfy every wine enthusiast's palate.
