Château Haut-Bacalan has a rich history dating back to 1726, nestled in the esteemed town of Pessac, near Bordeaux. Originally acquired by Charles Louis de Secondat, Baron de Montesquieu, and his associate Sarrau de Boynet, the estate was sold to Mr. Bacalan in 1748, marking the beginning of its legacy in winemaking.
The Vineyards of Haut-Bacalan
Spanning 30 hectares, the vineyards of Haut-Bacalan are meticulously cultivated with a minimum density of 6,500 vines per hectare. The estate adheres to strict yield regulations, producing 48 hl/ha for white wines and 45 hl/ha for reds. The vineyard is home to classic Bordeaux grape varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec, and Carmenere for reds, while Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, and Muscadelle are used for whites. Traditional winemaking techniques are employed to honor the terroir and the environment.
