Château Haut-Bacalan has a rich history dating back to 1726, nestled in the esteemed town of Pessac, near Bordeaux. Originally acquired by Charles Louis de Secondat, Baron de Montesquieu, and his associate Sarrau de Boynet, the estate was sold to Mr. Bacalan in 1748, marking the beginning of its legacy in winemaking.

The Vineyards of Haut-Bacalan

Spanning 30 hectares, the vineyards of Haut-Bacalan are meticulously cultivated with a minimum density of 6,500 vines per hectare. The estate adheres to strict yield regulations, producing 48 hl/ha for white wines and 45 hl/ha for reds. The vineyard is home to classic Bordeaux grape varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec, and Carmenere for reds, while Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, and Muscadelle are used for whites. Traditional winemaking techniques are employed to honor the terroir and the environment.

Very pleasant experience in this family area. Very well received, we called before arriving and were able to be received for a warm and generous tasting. From the history to the wines presented through the quick presentation of the barrels, we were able to learn a little more about this area in terms of taste and more than friendly values. An excellent selection of wines ... a Bordeaux vineyard to visit and taste without fail. Château Haut-Bacalan offers an ideal setting for breakfast and adults during the summer/winter open days in Pessac Léognan with theme evenings

It was great! The owner showed us around himself – a very warm host and his passion for the vineyard and wine making process really shone through. Also the wines themselves were really excellent and my favourite type of style, so we bought a few bottles to take home! Thanks so much for setting it up.

Great chateau, visited during open days, great atmosphere with DJ and many small local producers and of course good tasting. I recommend this vineyard which has a beautiful history. Comes from a Champagne family.
