A Glimpse into History
Nestled in the heart of Lower Austria, Fürstenzellerhof is far more than just a winery — it’s a place where history is woven into every stone and vineyard row. Long before it became a wine estate, the property served as a hunting lodge for Queen Agnes of Hungary. Later, it returned to the Cistercian monastery of Fürstenzell in Bavaria, which is where the estate gets its name and its sense of monastic heritage.
In 1862, the estate transformed into a dedicated winery, and ever since, it has continued to charm visitors with its deep roots, warm atmosphere, and genuine family traditions.

Terroir & Vineyard Character
What makes Fürstenzellerhof truly special is the land it sits on. The vineyards lie across gently sloping hills with soil made primarily of loess — a fine, soft silt — mixed with sandstone. These natural elements, paired with the unique climate of the Kremstal valley, create ideal conditions for expressive, aromatic wines.
Warm winds from the Pannonian region blend with the cooler air from the north, producing grapes that mature beautifully. This balance results in wines that are ripe yet fresh, full of character, and unmistakably connected to their origin.
The Wines & Grape Varieties
Fürstenzellerhof offers a wide range of wines — red, white, rosé, sparkling, and even spirits — making it a delightful destination for every kind of wine lover.
Their Grüner Veltliner is a standout: crisp, vibrant, and peppery, representing the classic style Austria is loved for. They also produce a half-dry Blauer Portugieser that is juicy, smooth, and easy to enjoy.
Despite the high quality, their wines remain refreshingly affordable when purchased directly from the estate. For example, the Grüner Veltliner DAC is priced around €8 per bottle, while the Blauer Portugieser comes in at about €11.

The Visitor Experience
A visit to Fürstenzellerhof is more than a tasting — it’s a personal encounter with the people and traditions behind the wines. The estate offers an hour-long wine tasting and tour for just €10 per person, making it one of the best values in the region.
Guests are guided through the vineyards, the cellar, and the historic estate itself. The tasting takes place in a lovingly restored old kitchen and dining room, creating a cozy, welcoming setting. Visitors sample three different wines, often including red, white, sparkling, and even a spirit or two. And with both German and English spoken, international guests feel right at home.
Hospitality & Vibes
The warmth of Fürstenzellerhof is something guests repeatedly highlight. Many mention the friendly, down-to-earth welcome from the host, Ewald, who treats visitors like old friends. Small touches — like offering cheese bread, nuts, and generous pours — create a relaxed, memorable experience.
Some reviewers describe peaceful evenings in the courtyard, tasting wine straight from the barrel and soaking up the atmosphere. It’s the kind of place where time seems to slow down, letting you fully enjoy the moment.
