Winery of the Week: Palazzo Lodron

A Historic Family Legacy in the Heart of Vallagarina, Italy

Welcome to Palazzo Lodron, a family-run winery in Trentino’s Lagarina Valley. The Counts of Lodron settled here in 1456, and the Palazzo, rebuilt in the 16th century by Count Nicolò Lodron, still bears his statue above the entrance. Later renovations in 1628 by architect Santino Solari added a family chapel, and even the young Mozart visited Rovereto in 1769. In the 1990s, the Volpini de Maestri family opened the palace for public events, and today the descendants of the Lodron family maintain this historic estate. Founded in 2016, the winery carries centuries of tradition into every bottle.

Palazzo Lodron

The seven-acre vineyard in Nogaredo sits on a sun-drenched hillside, 220 meters above sea level along the Adige River. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Carménère thrive among stone walls, olive trees, and lavender. Trentino’s soil, sun, and wind create aromatic, elegant wines. Vineyard care focuses on sustainability: cover crops boost biodiversity, weeds are managed mechanically, fertilizers are organic, and the “Vendemmia Verde” ensures grapes reach peak quality.

Visitors to Palazzo Lodron are welcomed into a warm and historic setting where wine, nature, and history meet. Wine tastings take place in the scenic vineyards or in the palace’s elegant halls, offering a chance to savor Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Carménère paired with local delicacies.

Palazzo Lodron also offers an unforgettable backdrop for weddings and special events. Surrounded by centuries-old architecture and picturesque vineyards, the estate provides full support from catering to flower arrangements to create a seamless celebration with authentic Italian flair. For those seeking wines that embody history, care, and a true sense of place, Palazzo Lodron offers more than a tasting - it offers a journey into the heart of Vallagarina, where every bottle tells the story of land, family, and tradition.
