A Charming Escape in the Heart of Minho

Tucked away in the lush, green hills of Minho, in northern Portugal, Casa Lata is more than just a winery — it’s a restored family farmhouse that invites you to slow down, breathe deeply, and savor life. The estate spans about 3.6 hectares, nestled between the Cávado and Homem rivers, and is only 10 km from Braga and 30 km from the stunning Peneda-Gerês National Park.

Here, tradition and modernity live side-by-side: the old stone wine press and alembic still stand in the main house, while a sleek, contemporary cellar hums with winemaking activity.

A Family Legacy Rooted in Wine

Casa Lata is a deeply personal project for José Carlos Costa and his daughter Margarida, who revived this property in honor of José’s uncles, the Pereira Lata family. Their restoration preserved traditional elements — like the granary, old farming tools, and that very stone press — but they’ve paired that with a modern approach to winemaking.

Wines That Speak of Place

At Casa Lata, the wines mirror the spirit of Minho: fresh, vibrant, and deeply rooted in their terroir. The vineyard uses indigenous Vinho Verde grape varieties, including Loureiro, Trajadura, Arinto, Fernão Pires, Vinhão, and Padeiro de Basto. Because of this, their wines are lively, aromatic, and full of the green, citrus-y freshness that Vinho Verde is known for.

Experiences That Feel Like Coming Home

One of Casa Lata’s greatest strengths is its enotourism offering — it doesn’t feel like a tourist trap, but like a slice of family life. Here are a few experiences that stand out:

  • Wine & Local Pairings: For about €24, enjoy a tasting of their Terras de Amares wines paired with regional cheeses, homemade jams, and fresh bread.
  • Vineyard Picnic: This 2-hour experience includes a guided tour through the vineyard and a curated picnic with local snacks, cheese, house-made jam, bread — and a bottle of your choice from their wine list.
  • Classic Tasting: Taste three of their wines (white, red, rosé) paired with a board of cheese, bread and jam, while learning about their winemaking process.

A Stay That Feels Like Coming Home

Casa Lata also offers accommodation in its beautifully renovated farmhouse. There are 13 charming rooms in the main house, plus a rustic “Casa do Garrafas” — a separate guesthouse overlooking the vineyard. Amenities include a games room, outdoor pool, green spaces, and even EV charging.

Staying here isn’t just convenient — it makes the wine experience feel more intimate. Guests often rave about the warm welcome from Margarida and José, the cozy interior, and that feeling that you’re part of the family for a few days.

Sustainability & Values

Casa Lata emphasizes sustainability and genuine hospitality. Their philosophy is deeply rooted in Minho’s traditions, and they intentionally preserve natural beauty, reduce environmental impact, and support local culture.
