Winery of the Week: Weingut Helmut Maglock

Deep Roots and Distinctive Wines from Austria's Kamptal

Welcome to Weingut Helmut Maglock – a family-owned estate in the heart of Austria’s Kamptal wine region, where tradition, craftsmanship, and terroir come together in every bottle. The history of the winery dates back to 1822. Since then, the family has preserved the heritage of old vines that grow in the best sites of Kamptal.

Weingut Helmut Maglock

Helmut Maglock and his son Maximilian know the unique characteristics of their vineyards inside and out and strive to express each site’s typicality with precision. The combination of unique loess soils and meticulous vineyard work produces fresh classic wines, as well as authentic and complex wines with depth. For Helmut Maglock, selective hand harvesting is a key factor in quality. In the cellar, he avoids excessive use of technology – craftsmanship and time play a central role instead.

Visitors are invited to experience much more than just a wine tasting. The estate offers guided wine tastings, as well as tours of the cellar and vineyards. Their charming tasting room with a vaulted dome can accommodate around 50 people, creating an intimate atmosphere for discovering their wines. In the old wooden barrel cellar, guests will encounter a vinophile highlight: two massive oak barrels, each holding 18,000 liters.

For those who enjoy the outdoors, guided vineyard walks through the scenic Kamptal hills are available in spring and summer by appointment, providing a deeper connection to the landscape and the winery’s centuries-old heritage. Whether you're a wine lover eager to explore Austrian terroir or simply seeking an authentic and memorable experience, Weingut Helmut Maglock offers a journey into history, craftsmanship, and the unique soul of Kamptal wines.
