Azienda Agricola Zaccagnini, the Birth of a Great Winery

Azienda Agricola Zaccagnini is a family-run winery established by Mario Zaccagnini in 1969. He planted a couple of hectares of Verdicchio to make wine for his family, as their main line of work was in electrical systems.

The Salmagina vineyard’s wines were tremendous, and the region was perfect for vine cultivation. As a result, he sold the electrical company and focused on winery and wine production.

The winery landscape is just like Tuscany, surrounded by a lot of mountains and hills, along with olive trees and vineyards. There is a saltwater spring near the vineyards. People used to boil the water and sell the salt that remained behind.

Winemaking at the Azienda Agricola Zaccagnini

Their wines have incredible aromas and flavors, along with a unique texture. The qualities of their region and hard work are expressed in the wines as the winemakers use organic processes in the vineyards. There is a limited intervention in the winemaking process and no use of any chemical fertilizers or pesticides. Azienda Agricola Zaccagnini always practices sustainable farming, and the sulfite level in wines is well below the limit. They will be certified organic from the harvest of 2020.

The main varieties of grapes grown here are Verdicchio, Sangiovese, Chardonnay, Pecorino, Passerina, and Montepulciano. The winery uses the best grapes to produce their exquisite red, white, rosé, sparkling, and dessert wines. They also cultivate wild plums and cherries to make their dessert wines and produce extra virgin olive oil.
