A Legacy of Winemaking in Sardinia's Heart
The Rich Heritage of Fratelli Serra
Founded in the early 20th century by Giovanni Antonio Serra, the Fratelli Serra winery has been a family affair for generations. In 1950, the winery transitioned to his sons, who dedicated themselves to enhancing wine production and expanding the estate. By 1992, the next generation took the reins, with one grandchild managing commercial operations and the other overseeing viticulture. The Serra brothers are renowned for producing the celebrated “Vernaccia di Oristano,” making Fratelli Serra the first Sardinian winery to earn the prestigious DOC (Denomination of Controlled Origin) status, along with numerous accolades at both national and international levels.
Commitment to Quality
With over a century of experience in crafting “Vernaccia” wine, the Serra family is dedicated to continuous improvement in both vineyard and cellar practices. The current owners have invested in modern equipment to enhance winemaking techniques, ensuring that each bottle reflects their commitment to quality and tradition.
The Vineyard's Unique Approach
Spanning approximately 12 hectares, the vineyard specializes in the Vernaccia di Oristano grape, utilizing an upward-trained vertical-trellised system. During the harvest, grape pickers use specialized containers to carefully collect the grapes, preserving their juice. After fermentation, the wines are aged in barrels for several years before bottling, allowing for a refined flavor profile that showcases the unique terroir of Sardinia.
