The Alghero wine region is a one-of-a-kind and breathtakingly beautiful place in Sardinia that produces high-quality red, white, and rose wines in a variety of styles. The region labels wines as single varietals if the grape concentration is 85% or higher. From its 376 hectares of vineyards, the region produces approximately 13,200 hectolitres of wine. One of the most intriguing aspects of the region is its native language, Algherese, which originated from standard Italian and standard Catalan. Alghero wine region covers the town of Alghero on the northwestern coast of Sardinia. The region is roughly rectangular in shape starting from the coast to approximately 30km inland. The landscape and architecture of the region are breathtaking including its medieval walls, watchtower, Catalan gothic churches, caves, and beaches. The region is just 37km northwest of Sassari and 33km from Porto Torres. The region covers at least 10km of the coastal area around the center of the town of Alghero.
The town of Alghero was once among the seven royal cities of Sardinia and was founded by the Genovese Doria family in the early 12th century. Catalans moved into the region in the mid-14th century and ruled the area for centuries. Casa Savoia, a noble Piedmont family, took control of the region in the 1720s but the heritage of Spanish-Catalan traditions and languages was continued. Alghero wine region was created in 1995 and was once a major wine-producing zone in Sardinia. Winemaking has been practiced in the region since the Nuragic and Phoenician-Punic periods.
Alghero wine region has a Mediterranean climate that is dry and hot climate with perfect grape growing conditions. The soil across the Alghero wine region is diverse and ranges from volcanic, sandy, rocky, and limestones that are rich in iron, resulting in reddish soils. Mistral wind flowing from the sea deposits salt on the vines resulting in minerality and salinity in grapes. The average rainfall is around 400-550mm.
Torbato, a white grape variety, is the most planted grape in the Alghero wine region comprising around 31% of total grape varieties. Other significant grape varieties cultivated in the area are as follows.
Red Varietals: Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cagnulari, Merlot, Sangiovese, Grenache, and Carmanere.
White varietals: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Torbato, and Vermentino.

Despite its simplicity, this meal is a favorite in Rome, as well as throughout the country. Even though carbonara is now regarded as a major Roman dish, its origin is often debated.
Alghero Cathedral, commonly known as St. Mary the Immaculate Cathedral, is a Roman Catholic cathedral that served as the seat of the Bishop of Alghero from 1503 to 1986. The cathedral is located in the ancient city of Alghero, Sardinia, in the province of Sassari. Its style is Catalan-Gothic, with five chapels and an ambulatory of the presbytery with an octagonal base of the bell tower. Giuseppe Massetti, a Genovese artist, designed the main altar. The cathedral also serves as the final resting place for the Duke of Montferrat and the Count of Asti. Since 1986, the cathedral has served as the seat of the Bishop of Alghero-Bosa.
The coral museum features ancient Mediterranean life and focuses on the coast of the Catalan city, renamed after the Coral river. The Corallium Rubrum is the major attraction of the museum which embodies the strong bond between the city of Alghero and its heritage. The coral is once used to decorate tiles of houses.
