Luca Leggero Winery: Tradition, Sustainability, and Excellence

Founded in 1990 in Turin, Luca Leggero Winery is rooted in the charming Canavese region of Piedmont. Luca's passion for winemaking was sparked by his grandfather, a dedicated viticulture enthusiast. At just sixteen, he began experimenting with winemaking techniques in his home cellar, mastering the art of grape transformation. After graduating from high school in 2009, Luca planted his first vineyards in 2011, ultimately establishing his winery. His goal is to revitalize traditional wines, including the renowned Nebbiolo, the promising Erbaluce, and the classic Dolcetto, all produced in a state-of-the-art facility that enhances the winemaking experience.

Reviving Canavese's Wine Heritage

The Canavese region, known for its Erbaluce DOCG and “Picotendro” Nebbiolo grapes, has faced challenges due to diseases and changing agricultural practices. Luca Leggero is dedicated to restoring the area's winemaking heritage by reclaiming historical vineyards and focusing on quality production. This commitment requires meticulous attention to detail and a passion for excellence from vineyard to bottle.

Organic Excellence

At Luca Leggero Winery, organic practices are at the forefront of winemaking. The focus is on cultivating high-quality grapes while prioritizing environmental health. Techniques such as organic fertilization, controlled grass cutting, and natural vinification help preserve the unique characteristics of the terroir, while minimizing the use of copper and promoting plant health.

Innovative Winery with Environmental Commitment

The winery is a blend of tradition and innovation, utilizing advanced oenological technologies to produce exceptional wines. Environmental sustainability is a core value, with a strong emphasis on energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources. This approach ensures that the wines authentically reflect the Canavese region's unique qualities.

Aging: Amphorae and Large Oak Barrels

Our wines benefit from diverse aging methods, including amphorae and large oak barrels. The amphorae, inspired by ancient techniques, allow for gradual maturation while preserving the grapes' distinctive aromas. Large oak barrels, used exclusively for our red wines, add depth and complexity, softening tannins and harmonizing flavors. Our careful selection and monitoring processes ensure that each wine maintains its individuality and reflects its terroir.

I've been in their cellar. An innovative and very bright place. I appreciated the way they tell their story and the passion they put into it, which is also visible in their Nebbiolo and Erbaluce. If you are a fan of visiting wineries and stories related to wine, this is definitely worth a visit!

A beautiful young winery. The 2 Leggero brothers started this winery in 2011. They now have a considerable area and buildings. The wine tasting is highly recommended. They present a snack (cheese and sausage) while tasting about 5 wines. The wines are very accessible. It is not a winery among so many. They distinguish themselves not only by working completely sustainably and organically, but also by largely storing the wines in terracotta barrels instead of oak barrels. There is a very solid long-term vision behind the production process, behind the structure of their wines. They are really young Italian entrepreneurs with a nice solid vision. The brothers grew up in the village of Villareggia, where the company is also located. The youngest brother (Luca) showed, together with his grandfather, a special interest in wine and wine production at an early age. Definitely worth a visit and definitely buy the wine.

Luca gave us a warm welcome that sweetened the experience of tasting the Piedmontese wines produced by his winery; noteworthy is the location immersed in the bucolic and green landscape, characteristic of Villareggia.
