A Beautiful Winery in Montalcino, Born from Great Love and Passion

At Casanova di Neri, the stunning silhouette of Montalcino inspires a deep appreciation for winemaking. Founded in 1972 by Giovanni Neri, this winery has become synonymous with exceptional Italian red wines. Giovanni left Montevarchi to pursue his passion for Sangiovese, the grape variety that thrives in Montalcino. In 1977, the winery proudly bottled its first wine, Rosso di Montalcino, a tribute to the region's rich viticultural heritage. Following Giovanni's passing in 1991, his son Giacomo Neri took the helm, continuing the family legacy.

The Vineyards: The Heart and Wealth of the Company

Casanova di Neri's wines are crafted from the finest grapes sourced from seven remarkable vineyards across the Montalcino appellation. Each vineyard benefits from unique terroirs, microclimates, and soil compositions. Spanning 63 hectares, the estate primarily cultivates Sangiovese, with smaller quantities of Cabernet Sauvignon and Colorino, alongside olive groves. This diverse selection, combined with the team's dedication and expertise, results in wines that truly reflect the essence of their land.

A Glance Inside the Cellars of the Winery

The cellars at Casanova di Neri are nestled within the picturesque hills of Montalcino, designed with sustainability in mind. Built mostly underground, the facility utilizes gravity flow techniques to maintain the wine's natural integrity. The cellars are organized into various levels, each maintaining consistent humidity and temperature, essential for quality winemaking. The dedicated team works diligently in both the vineyards and cellars, ensuring that the unique characteristics of the grapes are preserved and celebrated in every bottle.

It's December but it's still worth a visit. It shouldn't be missed, especially for those Casanova di Neri fans who never had the chance to meet 'Giovanni Neri'. I've always wondered what makes Giacomo's Brunello so different from the others, and now I can understand a little bit more, leaving so many expectations for the wines of the future. Take a bus from Florence to Siena, and a taxi from Siena to the winery costs between 8 and 90 Euros each way. Koreans, take note!

We were warmly greeted as we entered and shown to a private tasting room. Entrance was through a secret door. Fun! The tasting room has a nice view of the property and it was spacious. We had a wine tasting for our group at this winery on a weekday. The presentation was very informative about their many vineyards and the hostess spoke excellent English. Really like their brunello wines. The Rosso was good too. We ordered a case to be shipped home.

I have been drinking their wine for the last few years in Singapore. While in Italy, I noticed that they were an hour away from my hotel. Was lucky to get a lunch and tasting reservation last minute. We started with lunch. Both the quality of service and food were excellent. I had the Zucchini Balls and Lamb Chops. Both were very flavorful and went well with their Brunello. Our server, I think her name is Leticia, was very friendly, knowledgeable and well spoken. The tasting was amazing, we tried 8 or 9 wines and picked up a couple of bottles. Overall, this is my favourites Brunello and I am glad I could experience the winery.
