The most commonly planted grape variety in the Montalcino area is Sangiovese. Sangiovese in the Montalcino area thought to be a different grape known as Brunello. But it is actually a clone of Sangiovese that is characterized by the larger size of berries than those of ordinary Sangiovese.
Sangiovese is the only grape variety used in the production of Tuscany’s most prestigious wine – Brunello di Montalcino. It is characterized by complex flavors, structure, powerful tannins, excellent acidity, and good storage potential.
