The History of Château Lamothe Despujols
The history of Château Lamothe Despujols dates back to the 16th century. The Lamothe family founded this Château many years ago and in 1961, the Despujols family took over the property forming the name Château Lamothe Despujols. The Château Lamothe Despujols estate covers an area of 7.5 hectares with the main grape varieties of Sémillon, Sauvignon and Muscadelle.
The Terroir of Château Lamothe Despujols
The vineyards produce 85% Semillon, 10% Sauvignon, and 5% Muscadelle. Their rich soil is a mix of sand, gravel, limestone and clay, which means that the great diversity of soils can produce high-quality grapes. The average age of the vineyard is 40 years although some vines could beat least 70 years old. At the Château Lamothe Despujols winery, vinification takes place in steel tanks after the pressing of grapes, the wine is then matured both in tanks and in new French oak barrels. You can enjoy Château Lamothe Despujols wines when they are young but the best bottles can reach their full maturity between 9-20 years of age.
