The Great Terroir of Château Saint Roux
Château Saint Roux is located in the village of Le Cannet-des-Maures. The historical property dates back to the 15th century. An Italian nobleman fell in love with the red-tinted soil of this land and decided to name it as “Roux”. Being rich in iron and bauxite, this vineyard’s soil offers nutrients that act as a catalyst and help produces rich and aromatic grapes. These grapes further produce complex and concentrated red wines with exceptional flavors.
Organic Winemaking at Château Saint Roux
The winemakers use organic farming to protect the vines naturally from diseases. Beyond the vines, the vinification involves natural and local yeasts that deliver a more authentic character to the wines. There is an experimental plot to analyze the behaviour and nature of different varieties of grapes and to check the effect of global warming on them. This parcel is best for grape varieties including Mourvèdre gray and white, Touriga Nacional, Calabrese and Mavrud. The respect for the terroir at Château Saint Roux has been passed down from generation to generation and from owner to owner. Saint Roux has had many owners, but its tradition remains intact over the centuries.
