A Family Winery Crafting Exceptional Red and Rosé Wines
A Region Steeped in 9 Centuries of Winemaking
The Valoria region has a rich winemaking history that dates back to the 12th century, when Premonstratensian monks introduced vineyards to their monastery in Grijalba. By the 13th century, the Castle of the Calatrava order was established, which now serves as a part of our winery and wine tourism project. In the 15th century, the Catholic Monarchs celebrated their wedding with local wines and set forth regulations for winemaking in the area. By the late 19th century, over 100 family wineries thrived here, and the locals were known as “Jopos,” named after the hoe used for cultivating vineyards.
The Legacy of Concejo Bodegas Sl
Concejo Bodegas Sl began its journey in 1906 with the acquisition of its first vineyards, producing wine continuously until the 1950s. However, as time passed, vineyard acreage diminished to just 3 hectares. In the 1980s, Antonio Concejo revitalized the estate, expanding it to approximately 30 hectares and selecting the chalkiest terroir in the Duero Valley to ensure the quality and distinctiveness of the wines. The current chapter of the winery was initiated by Enrique and Olga in the late 1990s, focusing on unique, mature soils. Their commitment to quality led to the vineyards receiving organic certification in 2009, and since then, the winery has been dedicated to producing high-quality organic wines.
