Montemercurio – A Symbol of Nature, Tradition, and Family Philosophy
Perched on the Mons Mercurius hill, Montemercurio is a family winery located in the heart of Montepulciano, producing high-quality organic wines. The vineyards and the cellar are positioned near the historic San Biagio temple in Colombelle. According to a local legend, there was once a temple of God Mercury on the Mons Mercurius hill that today inspires the winery’s name.
Marco, a Young Winemaker, Handles the Winery
In the early 1960s, a beautiful story was rolled out when Damo Anselmi planted his first vine on a small vineyard of three hectares and produced his first Vino Nobile. After his demise, his grandson Marco Anselmi acquired the farm and decided to turn it into a family tradition. Along with father Maurizio, Marco purchased seven more hectares. A fairly young winery, Marco established Montemercurio in 2007 and started selling his wines in 2011. Marco stores his wines in large wooden barrels and 40 small ‘caratelli’ left by his grandfather in the restored cellar.
The Vines that Reflects the Desires of the Anselmi Family
Ten Hectares of estate-owned vineyards are located in a recognized DOCG region, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. Here, Marco grows a wide array of grapes and takes care of his grandfather’s old vines. He cultivates top-quality Sangiovese, Canaiolo Nero, Mammolo, Colorino, Canaiolo Bianco, Pulcinculo, and Malvasia organically. Even during harvest, grapes are picked by hands. Today, the estate produces delicious red, white, rose, and sparkling wines, exported locally and globally
