A Family-Run Winery in the Scenic Bickley Valley
Myattsfield: A Winery in the Beautiful Bickley Valley
Myattsfield Vineyards is a family-run winery located in the stunning Bickley Valley, just 30 minutes east of Perth, Australia. This picturesque region is known for its lush landscapes and ideal climate for grape growing.
The Bickley Valley's climate is similar to that of inland areas in Spain and Portugal, making it perfect for a variety of grapevines. The Myatt family has a rich history in agriculture, originally farming rhubarb in Camberwell, London, where they supplied around 12,000 bunches daily in the 1840s. After more than 175 years, the descendants of Joseph Myatt have established their roots in the Bickley Valley, continuing the family legacy in winemaking.
A Unique Wine Region
The Bickley Valley is a small but significant part of the Perth Hills Wine Region, which stretches from Chittering to Jarrahdale. Recognized for its unique geographical and topographical features, the region was awarded Geographic Indications Committee (GIC) status in 1999, highlighting its potential for producing high-quality wines.
Diverse Grape Varieties
At Myattsfield Vineyards, a diverse range of grapes is cultivated to create exceptional wines.
Some of the grape varieties grown include Shiraz, Mourvèdre, Touriga Nacional, Durif, Viognier, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Verdelho, Pinot Noir, Muscat, Merlot, Tempranillo, Zinfandel, and Riesling. These grapes are used to produce a wide array of wine styles, including red, white, rosé, sparkling, dessert, and fortified wines, catering to various palates and preferences.
