The Winery in Mosel Region

Founded over a century ago, Weingut Emil Franz is a proud family-owned winery located in Traben-Trarbach, a charming city known for its Art Nouveau architecture. Nestled in the heart of the Mosel region, this area is celebrated as the Heart of the Cultivation Zone within the stunning Mosel valley, renowned for its exceptional Riesling vineyards and rich winemaking history.

Weingut Emil Franz's Vineyards

Our estate boasts over 20,000 grapevines spread across 3 hectares, with some vines exceeding 50 years in age. This winery, steeped in history, produces award-winning wines that have garnered acclaim throughout Europe and beyond. Our vineyards, situated on the region's famous south-facing slopes, benefit from abundant sunshine, allowing for optimal grape ripening. The unique combination of sloped terrain, extended ripening periods, and a warm micro-climate contributes to the balanced sweetness and acidity of our wines. Each bottle reflects a fresh taste, vibrant citrus aromas, and a subtle minerality, making it a delightful choice for any occasion.

Underworld Cellar Vaults

Weingut Emil Franz is part of the renowned Traben-Trarbach underworld cellar vaults, where tradition meets innovation. We take pride in our heritage while incorporating modern techniques into our winemaking process. From planting and nurturing the vines to harvesting and crafting the wines, we oversee every step with care. This blend of time-honored practices and contemporary methods results in wines that reflect both our rich history and a modern touch. We are excited to share our collection of fine wines with you, inviting you to enjoy the fruits of our labor.

Kai showed us his cellar in great detail and explained how the wine gets from the vineyard to the glass. The tour was very informative and exciting. The wine tastes really great, Kai knows his craft and is passionate about it.

Best culinary cellar (No. 5) in TT wine night market. Best wine, best chilli and goulash. Super friendly service and rustic ambience. We'll be back. Greetings Tom Google Local Guide Level7.

Kai and Chandrima go above and beyond, such a lovely couple. They took so much time to tell us about their range of wines and describe the wine making process. And we were able to try soooo many. These guys have been at this winery since 2021 and have accumulated bronze, silver and gold awards each year, including 2021. Incredible. A 'must visit'.

We stopped by spontaneously today. The signs on the door indicate where you can find the winemaker couple. We were spontaneously allowed to visit the cellar, taste the wine and have everything explained to us. We particularly liked the sparkling wine. But the selection is great and offers something to suit many tastes. Thank you for the friendly atmosphere!

I have visited the estate on two occasions, in November 2021 and November 2022. My business colleague, Herr Lucht from Langenfeld is a regular visitor and introduced me to this wonderful producer. Herr Franz is a great host and let us sample his cellar, putting us under no pressure to make any quick decisions. I took some cases back to the UK and have had very positive comments from friends. I hope to visit again and restock my cellar with some more of the trocken riesling.
