I propose to be your guide during a wine tasting in Tbilisi, because it's not every day you get to sip a glass of wine from the world's oldest winemaking tradition. The aim is to take you on a sensory journey through Georgian wine culture while sitting comfortably in a beautiful wine cellar.
Wine and Georgia are practically inseparable. Tradition has it that a baby's lips are wetted with a drop of wine so that it can get to know its homeland. Saint Nino, one of Georgia's most beloved religious figures, carried a twisted cross fashioned from a vine, and the Mother of Georgia, the imposing aluminum monument that watches over the capital, brandishes a sword in one hand and a bowl of wine in the other. Drink, or die.
In this tasting, the aim is to discover Georgian wines and especially the clay jar vinification process known as qvevri. We begin with a brief introduction to Georgia. We continue with a tasting of 2 white wines. The first is vinified in the European style, while the second is made in the traditional Georgian way, in qvevri. The aim is to compare techniques and familiarize yourself with these new flavors. We finish with a comparative tasting of red wines, in the same way, a “classic” wine and a qvevri wine. For a 5 wines tasting, we'll taste a rosé or a sweet wine, depending on what the wine merchant offers.
The price mentioned is for my expertise as a georgian wine expert and the first glass of wine. Then, you can choose different packages (3 wines ~12€ or 5 wines for ~15€), cheese or meat board, all to be paid at the bar directly. This way it allows guests who drink less or nothing at all to join the experience. For none drinking guest, I can replace the first glass by any non-alcoholic drink.
