Degrassi winery- Wonderful Winery in Croatia
Degrassi winery is a delightful winery to visit in the northwestern part of Istria in Croatia. There is also the oldest lighthouse on the Adriatic Sea in the Savudrija village near the winery.
Founder of the Winery
The founder of Degrassi winery, Moreno Degrassi is a renowned Istrian winemaker and is one of the founders of the entire Istrian wine scene. He is a man who truly lives wine. Moreno started to produce wine for his restaurant because he couldn’t find wine good enough to his liking. And in 1996, he began serious production and sale of wine. Degrassi winery has about 21 hectares of vineyard, and the most are near Buje.
Vineyards and Grape variety
The biggest parts of the vineyards from which the wines received their names are located on the white soil in four different positions: Bomarchese, Contarini, Ferne’ and San Pellegrin feom. The variety that grows on the white soil is Malvasia, Chardonnay, Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc, White Muscat, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot noir, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Syrah, Terrano, Refosco. On the red soil, we grow Terrano Terre Rosse and Refosco Terre Rosse. These grapes are handpicked to produce excellent red, white, rose, and dessert wines.
The specific Degrassi style and terroir make the wines aromatic, pure, with a strong accent on minerality, fresh, full, and intensive with a long taste that is exciting and elegant. The winery use modern technology, knowledge, and tradition in expressing the elegance of wines at the winery.
The domestic and international awards are proof that Degrassi invests a lot of love, effort, and dedication to their work.
