A Rich History and Organic Wines in Provence
A Sheepfold Transformed into a Winery
Less than a century ago, Domaine de La Vallongue was a sheepfold, later becoming a gathering spot for hunters. In the 1970s, Mr. Paul Cavalier recognized its potential for viticulture. Nestled in the picturesque towns of Eygalières and Saint Rémy de Provence, the estate spans 300 hectares of rugged scrubland. This historic site lies at the base of an ancient route connecting Rome and Spain. Under Cavalier's stewardship, 38 hectares were cultivated into vineyards, preserving the area's natural beauty. In 1985, the estate transitioned to organic farming, and in 2008, it was acquired by Christian Latouche, who was captivated by its charm.
Organic Practices at Domaine de La Vallongue
Even before its full organic conversion in 1985, Domaine de La Vallongue embraced sustainable practices. After decades of research, the estate has cultivated 38 hectares of diverse plots nestled between cliffs and rocks, allowing each terroir to shine during harvest. Natural fertilizers are used to promote the vineyard's health, situated at the foot of the stunning Alpilles massif, a region renowned for its vines and olive trees.
More Than Just Wines
Throughout the Vallée des Baux, the estate's olive orchards are tended to using traditional methods, with all harvesting done by hand. The mill, located at the heart of the estate, ensures the purity of the oil extraction process. With years of expertise, the team skillfully manages every stage of production, from picking to bottling. Olive oil is celebrated for its natural benefits, leading the winery to create a line of cosmetics that incorporate high concentrations of olive oil and other natural ingredients.
