Graben Gritsch winery: in the heart of Wachau
Graben Gritsch im Donauschlössel is a family owned vineyard, guesthouse, and newly opened restaurant right on the banks of the Danube River in Wachau, Austria. The Gritsch family runs the Donauschlössel and the Graben Gritsch winery like a traditional family business. For more than 40 years, the family has been producing traditional wine. While embracing some technology has been successful, the Gritsch family is committed to care and accuracy in their viticulture, rather than short-term success.
Experience delicious Austrian wines
The vineyards in the Spitzer Graben outdate the winery, with their centuries-old stone terraces. Just 7 kilometers from Spitz to Mühldorf, the trench has cool winds and cold nights and is characterized by mica slate and dry-stone walls. The floor of the trench is nearly solid rock, and the vines are rooted in weathered granite. These specific climatic and geologic conditions mark the character of the wine produced from the Spitzer Graben vines. Between this and vines on the banks of the Danub, the main varieties cultivated on 6 hectares of vineyards are Grüner Veltliner, Riesling and Gelber Muskateller, which are used to produce Trockene Weißweine, dry white wines.
