A Charming Family-Owned Winery in the Heart of Tokaj
A Passion for Winemaking
Karádi-Berger is a quaint family-owned winery that began as a personal passion. The owners initially cultivated grapes on just 0.5 hectares of land. In 2005, they acquired a charming building that marked the start of their winemaking adventure. This historic structure in Erdőbénye was once home to a former winemaker and belonged to the esteemed Szirmay estate, later serving as a residence for wine merchants.
Quality Grapes from a Prime Vineyard
The vineyard benefits from a south-facing slope, which enhances grape quality. This land, once part of the Diocese of Piš, was classified as First Growth in 1795 by Antal Szirmay. The winery cultivates notable grape varieties, including Furmint, Hárslevelű, and Sárga Muskotály.
Thanks to the favorable orientation, the grapes here can be harvested earlier than usual, achieving an excellent degree of brix.
Restoration of a Historic Winery
The owners dedicated time to restoring the winery, allowing the authentic building to reflect the charm of Budapest's historic puns for several years. The restoration project, completed in 2014-2015 with the support of an EU grant, established three key areas: a winery at the back, a tasting room accommodating 20-25 guests, and a comfortable two-room apartment with a kitchen, perfect for two couples or families.
