Small family-owned winery in Tokaj region

Hobby turned into the Winemaking Business

Karádi-Berger is a small family-owned winery. The winemaking started as a hobby where the owners first started to grow the grapes over just 0.5 hectares. It was then in 2005, they bought the delightful building and started their winemaking journey. The current owners bought the house of a former winemaker in Erdőbénye which once belonged to the Szirmay estate. Later it became the residence of wine merchants.

The Vineyard Accentuating the Quality of the Grapes

Their vineyard is south faced and the land once belonged to the Diocese of piš, was classified First Growth in 1795 by Antal Szirmay. The grape varieties like Furmint, Hárslevelű, Sárga Muskotály are grown in their winery.

Because of this south-facing aspect, the grapes here can be harvested earlier than usual with an extremely good degree of brix.

Restoration the Winery

The owners took their time with the renovations, so for a few years, this authentic building evoked the atmosphere of the ruined puns of Budapest. In 2014-15 the restoration project was completed with the help of the EU grant. Three functions were already established during this time- winery situated in the rear of the building, a tasting room which can accommodate 20-25 people and in the middle, they have created a two-room apartment with a kitchen which is comfortable for two couples or two families.
