Enjoy Authentic Georgian Winemaking and Warm Hospitality at Lomtadze's Marani
The Wine Story
Lomtadze's Marani is a charming winery located in the village of Velistsikhe, within the Gurjaani municipality of Kakheti, Georgia. Established in the early 20th century, this small cellar features 24 traditional qvevri—large clay vessels buried underground—crafted between 1900 and 1905. The winery also boasts a beautifully decorated winepress, known as Satsnakheli, adorned with intricate brick ornaments.
What Makes the Winery Unique
What sets Lomtadze's Marani apart is its commitment to preserving the ancient Georgian winemaking tradition in qvevri, a practice that has continued uninterrupted for over a century. The family cultivates vineyards of Rkatsiteli, Gvinis Tetri, and Saperavi grapes, using organic methods to ensure the highest quality. Visitors can engage in hands-on experiences, such as making traditional dishes like Churchkhela, Khinkali, and Khachapuri. In the autumn, guests are invited to participate in the grape harvest (Rtveli) and the winemaking process. Experience the renowned Kakhetian hospitality, savor exquisite wines and vodka, and enjoy traditional songs and toasts led by the esteemed toastmaster Shota Lomtadze.
