A Beautiful Vineyard in Morna Village, Southern Estonia
History of Morna
Morna Manor, known as Morne in German, was established around 1800 after separating from the nearby Isu Manor. The von Sievers family owned the estate until 1919, with Karl von Sievers being the last proprietor. In 2010, the Gavronski family acquired a former farmworker's residence of Morna Manor, which had also served as an apple-drying facility. This spacious home has been transformed into a cozy residence for living and hosting seminars. Additionally, a wine cellar and new winery buildings are currently under construction.
Quality Winemaking
While berry wines have a long history in Estonia, grape cultivation and winemaking are relatively new. The unique northern climate allows grapevines to flourish, producing grapes with a vibrant array of flavors. The dedicated winemakers at Morna have invested time and effort into perfecting their craft, resulting in high-quality wines that showcase the region's potential.
Wine Culture in Estonia
It may come as a surprise that Estonia, the northernmost cereal-growing nation, is also home to a growing wine industry. The cool climate supports the steady expansion of winemaking. Since regaining independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, Estonia's wine culture has blossomed, with a diverse selection of wines being imported from around the globe to satisfy the growing interest among wine enthusiasts.
