Paul Cluver Winery: A Legacy of Excellence

Paul Cluver Wine Estate is a proud 4th generation family business, rooted in the Elgin Valley for over 120 years. As pioneers of this premium wine-growing region, they have played a crucial role in establishing Elgin as a source of fine cool-climate wines. Dr. Paul Cluver was instrumental in planting the first vineyards here, leading to the creation of one of the region's first commercial wine cellars.

Today, the winery remains a family affair, continuing the legacy established by the Cluver family.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site

Paul Cluver Wines is dedicated to crafting world-class red, white, and dessert wines that showcase the unique characteristics of the Elgin Valley, particularly from their estate De Rust. With a strong commitment to environmental stewardship, over half of the estate is preserved for conservation. The winery is part of the Kogelberg Biosphere, a UNESCO World Heritage site established in 1998, recognized as South Africa's first biosphere. Since 2008, Paul Cluver Wines has been honored as a Conservation Champion and maintains a close relationship with De Rust Futura school, founded by their grandmother Gertrude Cluver over 60 years ago.

Renowned Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs

Paul Cluver Winery has significantly contributed to Elgin's reputation as one of South Africa's premier regions for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The estate produces a variety of grapes, including Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Noir, and Noble Late Harvest Riesling. Currently, four of the five Cluver siblings are actively involved in the winery, continuing the family tradition and taking the reins from their parents, Paul and Songvei.

Had a special time at Paul Cluver , we chose the Chardonay Journey and what a journey it was , the wines were as good as they get . Our hostess Libby raised the tasting experience with her friendliness, attentiveness and knowledge for which we thank her , would recommend without hesitation

With exquisite pinot’s, and amazing view and friendly staff, it is a must visit. PS: When driving in don’t be alarmed as you begin to enter in the apple pack area from next door. Once in the estate it transforms into a cereal farm!

Huge, beautiful estate and stunning wine tasting area. Their wines especially Chardonnay are beyond this world. Old and new wine making techniques. An amazing experience. Definitely worth a visit and purchase their wines. Love this place! Will stop by even for a glass whenever I am in the area or passing by.
