OUR STORY
The exclusive winery of Peter Falke is nestled against the majestic slopes of the Helderberg Mountains in the heart of the Stellenbosch winelands, South Africa. Groenvlei Farm is home to rambling magenta bougainvillea, delicate scented roses and wild lavender growing alongside carefully cultivated vineyards.
Dating back to the 18th century, the traditional gabled Cape Dutch buildings of the wine estate belie a contrasting modernity within. The stately old homestead is partnered by a “boutique” winery, contemporary wine tasting room and luxurious outdoor lounge which have established Peter Falke Wines as the most elegant and serene sundowner retreat in the winelands.
The Falke family has been doing business in South Africa since 1969. Peter Falke was born in Germany. His dream to own a farm came true when he acquired Groenvlei in 1995.
His wife, Danièle is French and an interior designer. Her taste and talent is expressed in the smallest details at Groenvlei.
TERROIR
Earth possesses tangible qualities.
It is tactile, malleable, warm, sensual, changeable, imbued with colour and smells. Earth is organic and alive, a source of nutrition for crops and plants.
The French define Terroir as being the unique aspects of a land and its environment. At Peter Falke Wines our emphasis shifts from winemaking to wine growing. We believe the quality of an exclusive wine is achieved from the quality of its grapes.
CELLAR
Wine making is both an art and a science and through the decades we have observed and learnt to better understand our unique Terroir.
Our philosophy is to capture the essence of the yearly harvest. We hand select our grapes in the vineyards and once in the cellar we release their true inner character in a traditional way combined with modern techniques by applying natural and minimalistic processes.
Werner Schrenk, viticulturist, award winning wine maker and general manager joined the Peter Falke team in 2008.
Louis Nel joined Peter Falke Wines as consultant winemaker in 2013.

The place is super beautiful and worth a visit to enjoy the garden and have a coffee or a glass of wine. We were very well served, but there was one person serving 4 tables and another person serving one table. As for the wines, they were good, but they didn't appeal to me that much.

A world-class atmosphere. You can certainly find something to your taste among the superior wines, and even the basic wines are of reasonable quality. You don't go to the winery for dinner, as it's more about tasting more of the wine. 🤫 The wine production is also right next door, and you feel like you can see everything. The wine tasting area is quietly located on the other side of the building. All in all, a pleasant experience.

An absolutely stunning wine estate! The atmosphere is relaxed, the wines are excellent, and the service is simply outstanding. A special shout-out to Oscar – his name says it all! We've rarely been served with such attentiveness, professionalism, and warmth. He truly made our visit a memorable experience. We will definitely be back and highly recommend Peter Falke Wine Estate to all wine lovers!

Friendly, attentive staff. Super nice lawn with trees, nice sitting areas with enough shade. Food to order. From a charcuterie platter to flatbread From bresaola to pizza. Of course lovely wines (white wines were sold out but their tainted rosé wine tasted like white) Reservation is recommended Contact Carmen Schmidt, the Hospitality manager (speaks Afrikaans, Dutch, English, German fluently) Well worth your visit

I had my first ever wine tasting in South Africa at this wine farm and I truly enjoyed the experience. Peter Falke Wines has a nice spacious outdoor setting where you can walk around. They offer a charcuterie board that tasted great at a very reasonable price. This is the perfect spot for an afternoon with the girls or a romantic date on a sunny day. Like reviews?
